FAQ

"Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend."
- Bruce Lee

The Canadian Wingchun Fellowship is proud to provide Progressive Fighting Systems-Jeet Kune Do (JKD) Concept Lessons. We follow the Bruce Lee - Dan Inosanto - Paul Vunak line of JKD.

Jeet Kune Do (Jeet Kuen Do) was founded in 1967 by Bruce Lee to give a name to his concepts and principles of martial movement. When Bruce Lee started researching and developing his system he gave it the name Jun Fan Gung Fu. Bruce Lee taught his system of martial arts to Dan Inosanto who later taught Paul Vunak. Paul Vunak founded Progressive Fighting Systems (PFS). Paul Vunak went on to developed the RAT (Rapid Assault Tactics) at the request of US Navy Seals a system he still teaches today to CIA, FBI, SWAT, and over 50 police departments.

Jeet Kune Do uses core concepts of Wing Chun, but also includes but is not limited to ideas from Western and Thai Boxing, Fencing, Kali/Escrima and street grappling. JKD encourages self-expression, and exploration of movement. While JKD can be used as a way of attaining health and fitness, Soji Bruce Lee also meant it to be an answer to reality self-defence/street defense in a SIMPLE, DIRECT and ECONOMICAL way.

Sessions are held TWO SATURDAYS a month, and are typically 3 hours in length. We cover concepts from several fighting arts including Wing Chun, Tai Chi, Western Boxing, Thai Boxing, Kali/Escrima/Filipino Martial Arts (FMA), street grappling. Special sessions will cover Paul Vunak's R.A.T. system (Rapid Assault Tactics) which he taught and developed for the US Navy Seals, and a system he still teaches today to CIA, FBI, SWAT, and over 50 police departments.

There are NO BELTS, NO FORMS, just functional training in a logical and strategic format to help you develop skills quickly and efficiently. PFS JKD is not about sports or tournaments, it's about practical self-protection, where there are no rules.

PFS JKD Training helps students to develop the following:
Ability to Solve Problems and Function under Pressure, Adaptability in a Situation, Confidence, Higher level hand-eye coordination, Increased Spatial Awareness, Increased Focus, Better Reflexes and motor functions, Increased Environmental and Situational awareness, to name a few.

The goal of PFS-Jeet Kune Do classes is to help you develop "attributes" and not limit you to "techniques". Techniques don't work, but attributes and concepts will allow you to adapt to your situation. At CWF we focus 80% of our training time on Self-Perfection ("attribute development"), the remaining 20% on Self-Preservation/Protection skills. The tools you gain for Self-Preservation/Protection will be easily learnt but it is through your study of Self-Perfection or "attribute development" that you will make your self-preservation/protection skills more potent.

Class format typically follows, warm-up/conditioning, solo drills (empty hand & weapon) then partner drills (pad work, stick/knife work, energy drills, etc). Classes also cover scenario based training, multiple attackers, the physiological and pyschological affects of violence and how they affect your performance.

Jeet Kune Do Classes are geared towards Men and Women aged 16 years or older. The typical person attending the training sessions are: Teachers, University Professors, Law Enforcement Officers, Private Investigators, Security personnel, Students (High school, College & University), Business Owners, Stay -at-Home Mothers, Engineers and Skilled Tradespeople to name a few.

We at the CWFWC believe that while learning PFS-JKD both the learning environment and teaching follow the following principles:

Safety & Patience: Students train at their own pace, while encouraged to challenge themselves. We believe that everyone learns at their own pace.

Respect: Our school believes that learning and training should be fun, exciting, and in the spirit of cooperation. There is no room for ego or competition. Students are encouraged to help and support each other to be the best they can be.

Thorough Analysis & Instruction: We just don't teach what you should do, we help you to learn why. Explanations are detailed, and questions and exploration is encouraged.

Sifu Chuck O'Neill was first formally introduced to JKD Concepts by PFS CEI/Full Instructor and founder of Thru the Fire (TTF) John Koeshall, and was provided his 'Apprentice Instructor' certificate. Sifu O'Neill later received his 'Full Instructor' status from Paul Vunak , the founder of Progressive Fighting Systems (PFS), and continues his training with Paul Vunak.
